Plantain

Like Plantain, Yam is the staple diet of many African and South American countries, available throughout the year from Ghana and Brazil

Yam

Most commonly associated with Tapioca, Cassava is a tropical perennial plant reaching 15 feet. The edible parts are the leaves and the roots (tuber), dark brown in colour growing up to 20" long, available all year round.

Used commonly around the world as a spice, ginger is also used for medicinal purposes. As fiery root with a light brown skin and a yellow flesh ginger is available throughout the year from China. Brazilian and Thailand ginger is also available seasonally but tends to be of a stringy texture as opposed to the Chinese.

Available mainly from China, Garlic is a close relative to the Onion, Leeks, Shallots and Chives, like Ginger available throughout the year and used globally for its strong taste and pungent smell. Known to help in certain health issues such as treating acne, assisting in managing high cholesterol levels and even preventing the common cold and flu.
